The Guardians of History Collection is dedicated to the preservation and remembrance of the Second World War experience. In particular, the opportunity to discover the unique and educational stories on the fringes of the mainstream.
Founded in 2013, the Warbirds of Glory Museum was formed to restore and fly period aircraft and offer a unique educational opportunity to understand the Second World War experience while mentoring youth in mechanical skills, aircraft restoration and American values.
GUARDIANS OF HISTORY
Along with restoration and education at the museum, we are here to preserve and protect our past. By providing safekeeping of these gifted military artifacts, memorabilia and stories we honor and remember the Greatest Generation.
THE TRAGIC STORY OF B-25 "8Z"
The Guardians of History program tells the heroic story of the B-25 "8Z" plane and crew on its final mission over Italy in March, 1945.
The book, "The Brenner Assignment" by Patrick K. O'Donnell, details the OSS operations in the Brenner Pass and mentions the fate of the 8Z crew.
Sandbar Mitchell is being restored as ship 8Z from the 340th Bomb Group/488th Bomb Squadron in honor and spirit of this heroic crew. In previous missions, Joseph Keller, author of the novel "Catch 22" was also a crewmember of 8Z.
